Class Description:

This class welcomes all levels of experience with clay. Beginner students will learn the fundamentals of hand building while exploring different approaches to making vessels, building small sculptures, and diving into surface design, and glaze techniques. Advanced students will be encouraged to try new approaches to their making while they continue their own practice. Students who are experienced on the potter’s wheel can choose throwing as their primary focus with the opportunity to enhance their skill set with hand building techniques. Together we will learn, share, goof, and grow as individuals and as a community. Clay is the way!!

Class Description: Beginners and Beyond Ceramics, is an introductory course, designed to give students a hands-on, educational and artistic experience using the potter’s wheel. This class is ideal for the novice who has never touched clay and has a genuine interest in learning the basics. While classes will focus on wheel throwing demonstrations and the fundamental techniques of creating functional wares, students will also be given the opportunity to explore hand-building techniques. The class will adapt to the student's interest. While Beginners and Beyond is targeted towards those new to ceramics, it is open to advanced students looking for more independent, mentor-based instruction.

Class Protocol, Expectations, and Rules:

  • Leave your workspace cleaner than you found it

  • There will be no extensions for missing a class

  • During open-studio time, questions and visiting with the instructors are welcome, but it is not “class time”. Please do not monopolize the instructor’s time. 

  • No chunks of clay down the sink

  • No bringing in people who are not registered in a class to open studio time or otherwise, unless given permission by the instructor. 

  • TAC has limited space and is unable to store work once the class is over. Please take home completed pieces.

Included with each Class:

  • 25 lbs bag of clay (additional clay is available for purchase $25 per 25lb bag))

  • Tools (to be returned)
